Providence to host URISA's 2nd GIS in Public Health Conference

This important area of the GIS industry has provided vital information to our nation in the pursuit of improving the level of Public Health.  The conference will be held June 5 - 8, 2009 at the Westin Providence.  The conference home page is here.  You can review abstracts, register, and submit a poster on their site.

GIS Institute Applications Being Accepted

Enrollment is now open for the semi-annual GIS Institute, June 1-13, 2009 offered by the Spatial Structures in the Social Sciences initiative.

The institute will provide two weeks of intensive training in tools for analysis and visualization of spatial relationships. Topics range from cartography to spatial statistics. With guidance from faculty and staff, participants will learn to apply GIS to a problem of their choosing.

The Institute is free. It is a cooperative activity of S4 along with the University Libraries, Earthlab, and PSTC.

Space is limited and an online application is required:http://www.s4.brown.edu/gis.

The deadline for applying is 4/22/09. 

Graduate students, post-docs, faculty, and staff are eligible to enroll. We particularly encourage participation by doctoral students who may have a use for these skills in their research. Additional details are available on the webpage and on the attached flyer.

Spring Meeting of NEARC Users Group

Last Call For Presentations!

Please consider sharing your experience and interesting projects with the rest of the NEARC community at this year’s Spring NEARC Conference.  They are soliciting posters, panel discussion sessions and presentations.  You can sign up for 20-30 min. presentations, or 45-60 min. presentations/panel discussions/workshop.  If you have a great idea, new technique or a great project, please share your experience with the rest of us and register your proposal at http://www3.amherst.edu/~aanderson/nearc/presentationsubmission.html
